Meanwhile in Iran

In a chorus of “same old, same old”, Iran’s President has called for Israel’s destruction:

“Israel must be wiped off the map,” Ahmadinejad told a conference called “The World without Zionism,” attended by some 3,000 conservative students who chanted “Death to Israel” and “Death to America.”

[ . . . ]

“The Islamic world will not let its historic enemy live in its heartland,” he said.

Ahmadinejad, who took office in August, said Israel would be destroyed by a new wave of Palestinian attacks.

“Surely the new wave of (attacks) in Palestine … will erase this stigma from the Islamic world,” he said.

Tehran denies accusations it trains and arms Palestinian militant groups, saying it only offers moral support.

“Moral” support. Sure. What exactly is “moral” about advocating the murder and slaughter of over 6 million Jews? Maybe we ought to ask Hitler about that one.

What I wonder is what exactly people thought would be going on at a conference entitled “The World Without Zionism”? Chants of Kumbaya around the campfire?

Damian figures that Iran’s nuclear ambitions have a specific purpose. I wonder if Iran would call launching nukes at Tel Aviv “moral support” as well?

  • John Palubiski says:

Iranians need to reacquaint themselves with their own history. Jews and Iranians/Persians are NOT “historical enemies” at all. Both the Persians and Hebrews of old got along very, very well.

Iran’s leadership now speaks with the voice of their internalised Arab oppressors/colonisers.

So instead of vilifying Israel Iran’s elite should recover “lost memory” and then demand reparations from Saudi Arabia for cultural genocide.

  • Tre says:

Oh, don’t get your knickers in a knot girl. 3000 people attended this conference. They’re the equivalent of the “venomous” conservative zionists advocating the same be done, not to Palestine, but to Palestinians. Spewing their “inflammatory” rhetoric. All that “viper nest” jazz, etc. blah, blah.

About moral support, the IDF and the terrorist Israeli state get a whole lot of that from the Israeli population, too.

    Ho hum.

  • Peter says:

Persians maybe are not the historical enemies of the Jews. But you have to remember, these particular Persians are looking at Israel and the Jews through the distorting lens of Islam.

  • cliff from montreal says:

Only tre can stoop low enough to find a moral ‘equivalent’ to these hideous troglodytes from the empire of hate!
    Good show…little girl

  • Jill says:

What’s with the “ho hum” thing, anyway? Is that supposed to be a cutting remark?

    Um, yeah. Razor sharp.

  • Jonny says:

    Not a very friendly guy.

  • DaninVan says:

So, Sari, you and Tre went to Univ. together?

  • Tré says:

Ho hum. Must be the weather. Blah. Or maybe just tired of this debate.

Dan, I don’t think we were there at the same time. I don’t recall meeting Sari, maybe I did, but I would know her if I saw her.

  • Tré says:

Few other less frequent posters as well.

  • segacs says:

We were there at the same time, give or take. We didn’t exactly run in the same circles. But we have run into one another… I guess I’m just not that memorable to her… (Should I be insulted?) :)

  • DaninVan says:

Yes, I can see where you might not have “run in the same circles”.
Tre’s POV, however, DOES seem to run around in circles…

  • Tre says:

I don’t recall too many of the Hillelniks Sari, don’t be offended. Maybe your memory is the one at fault, maybe you just remember me from that pic Josh (forgot his last name, I know, I know, that’s like referring to Ahmed….which one?) took of me at a rally giving him the middle finger. Who knows.
