Indian summer
Today was one of those perfect fall days when, despite the crispness in the air and the pumpkins for sale, summer decides to declare its last hurrah. Sunny, warm and beautiful, the whole city was out in force to enjoy what will probably be one of the last nice days before winter sets in.
I headed over to Marché Jean-Talon for fresh fruits, veggies, cheese, meats, bread and other assorted goodies. Not knowing quite what to do with all the apples I bought, I decided to bake apple cake… except then I realized I don’t own a cake pan anymore, so they turned out to be apple muffins. They still taste pretty good, if I may say so myself.
Enjoy the Indian summer while it lasts!
Leaf-peeping and pommes
That’s pommes as in apples, not pommies as in Brits, by the way. Which suits me just fine, because it’s apple season and they are incredibly good this year.
And just in time for Rosh Hashanah too. Apples and honey… mmmmm….
It’s also leaf-peeping season, an activity with a comical name but lots of great photo ops. It was a beautiful day today, sunny and clear and hot enough to be mistaken for summer, but with that fabulous fall crispness in the air that just makes it great to be alive. Here are a few pictures from today’s foray out to Parc Saint-Bruno:

Soon enough, it will be winter and we’ll all be grumbling about the cold. In the meantime, let’s all enjoy fall, while it lasts.
Summer’s over?
Today was rainy and dreary. But unlike a summer shower, today’s rain came with a chill in the air that felt an awful lot like, dare I say, fall.
One week till Labour Day. Seems summer is just about over.
It’s a beautiful day
Winter is definitely approaching. It’s been chilly and rainy most of the month. And it’s now getting dark super-early thanks to us having changed the clocks last night. But today was one of those perfect fall days that makes people want to go out and enjoy the sunshine. Here are a few shots from about town:

And tomorrow, Halloween. We all know what that means: Chocolate goes on sale on Tuesday!
The best part of Rosh Hashanah
Here in Montreal, anyway… when Rosh Hashanah is “late”, like this year, it coincides with the peak of apple season. Fresh-picked apples and honey… mmmmm….
Indian summer
It’s the kind of beautiful day outside today that puts everyone in a good mood.
I knew I couldn’t stay cooped up indoors, so I went out walking and window-shopping. I ended up hitting up some Montreal landmarks, like the St-Viateur bagel factory and the Jean-Talon market. I came home with bags full of mouth-watering goodies… way too many, in fact. There’s currently an apple cake in my oven, thanks to my inability to resist the fresh apples.
Days like today, it’s good to be alive.
