Brain on “off”

I’m not in a writing mood.

I’m not sure why. I’ve been home most of the day. Certainly, there’s tons to blog about. But somehow, the words won’t come. Maybe it’s emotional or informational overload? Who’s to say?

But I’m having the same problem in French . . . even worse! Having decided my writing skills in French are laughably horrid, I enrolled in a course at l’Université de Montréal this semester in effort to improve it. So far so good, except that my measly little homework assignment consists of writing about a half-page, and I can’t seem to work up the motivation. Sad, ain’t it?

I guess some days our brains are just on “off”.

Oh, your French sucks too? Though I think my written French is better than my spoken French, or, at least, I know French, and I read a lot of French translations of Japanese manga (comics), I just have zero confidence when I speak it, and also can’t make heads or tails of “joual”.

As for the Columbia, I feel pretty much the same way as I did when the Air France Concorde crashed into that hotel… sad, but not really traumatized like I was when the Challenger blew up when I was 11 or the way I felt after 9-11, which really numbed me a fair bit when it comes to tragedies… well, I still feel outraged (even as a mostly-non Jew) when another dozen or so Israelis are blown up for the “crime” of being citizens, but not exactly traumatized.

Well, given that I was six years old when the Challenger blew up, I don’t really remember it.

My spoken French is semi-decent, seeing as how I use it at work and in my daily life. Working in retail for three and a half years helped there too. My written French is another story . . . sad sad sad.
