Gay marriage debate again

With the gay marriage debate back in the papers, it seems like the idiots are crawling out of the woodwork once again.

I honestly don’t understand why people are so opposed to allowing gays and lesbians to marry. Fine, I can understand if certain religious institutions don’t want to accept it. After all, religion is all about arbitrary prescriptions and proscriptions of lifestyles.

But marriage itself – in the civil definition – is mainly a legal contract, and any law that discriminates against a portion of the population based on something they can’t help ought to be scrapped. I mean, what is this, the eighteenth century? I thought we’d progressed beyond blaming homosexuality for the “immorality” of society.

Being gay is like being a redhead, or being left-handed. As I myself am both red-haired and left-handed, I certainly wouldn’t want any laws discriminating against me on either count. Just as I can’t help those, gay people can’t help being gay – nor should they be made to feel like they’re somehow inferior, or less deserving of the same rights as the rest of us. If they fall in love and want to spend the rest of their lives together, what’s so wrong about giving them the same rights to marriage as the rest of us?

Comments like this one baffle me beyond belief:

Supporters of same-sex marriage cannot guarantee a secure future, for they have no historical, moral or scientific basis to do so. No one knows what the fall-out will be from having in essence a more gay society, as people increasingly accept and engage in homosexual behaviour.

Oh yeah, cause gay people are out there in numbers trying to convince us unenlightened straight people to be more like them. Oh no wait, that’s not gay people . . . that’s religious people – people who think that somehow their “morality” needs to apply to everyone else and that they somehow have the right to dictate to others how to live. What does this person think, that if gays are given the right to marry, suddenly everyone will think it’s such a great idea and decide to be gay?

Some people are just really stupid.

Nice to see someone who is pro-Isreal but not a member of the social right.

I agree with you completely, and I wish that more of the people who are opposed to religous tyranny in the Arab world were also willing to take a stand when (much milder) forms of the same syndrome appear back at home.

Thanks for doing such a wonderful blog!

Hmm, yes, if you allowed gays to marry, they would pro-create like bunnies and take over the world. Somehow I think there’s a slight flaw in that logic.

I think those people are more afraid of seeing someone the know come out of the closet and bring their nice and clean view of things crashing down.

Uh, how is being born red headed akin to being born ‘gay’?

Where is your evidence for such an appalling statement?

Uh what about all those ex gays who are living normal healthy lives now? What do you do with those thousands and thousands of ex gays? How do you explain that?

How do you explain the study by the Athiest Jewish Doctor, Mr. Spitzer, who in 73 got Homosexuality taken off the AMA list of mental disorders who now admits that faith based programs are able to correct the homosexual’s behavior?

Granted, I have no problem if someone wants to remain in this lifestyle no more then I do for someone who wants to remain addicted to booze but don’t succumb to the dangerous politically correct zietgiest and propaganda of the Left and that this is somewhow a normal alternative lifestyle!! That is appalling anti-intellectualism!!

This slippery slope we are riding in the West is getting scarier and scarier!! What will be considered normal in 25 years time? And of course you on the Left will support it!! Chilling indeed!!

On Earth there are 3 billion males adn 3 billion females. 90% of males are attracted to females and 10% to males. There concept of ‘lifestyle’ does not apply to beign gay – either you are attracted to the same or opposite sex. Neither you nor I chose to be attracted to males or to females. There is no such thing as ‘ex-gay’ .. some individuals after a life of fear forced themselves into heterosexual marriage. What thosuands and thousands – what are you tlaking about? These ‘conversions’ of homosexuals have been comprehensively debunked – all academic studies have concluded you cannot change your sexuality. It is not ‘normal’ to be heterosexual – it happens to be the way you are. Of course, perhaps it is normal to be white Aryan and those with the disorder of beign Jewish – well we should tolerate them of course but not encourage this. In order that these subversive homosexuals don’t affect your pure blood, perhaps gay people should have to wear armbands with pink triangles so they can be identified – it has been doen before. I know my great grandparents had to wear the yellow star and they and homosexuals died together.
It is deeply anti-intellectual to say it is a lifestyle or there is choice in the matter or that there is any moral issue involved at all. What moral issue is involved? Gay people are only interested in each other, not you. Don;’t flatter yourself. I’m gay and see nothign wrong with me being in love with some1 and having a healthy relationship. There is no possiblity oif me marrying a woman as i am naturally only attracted to the same, not the opposite sex. Why do you want people liek me to be told we’re inferior. It’s unfortunate you use the same language as some supremacists. I am Jewish, male and do not find women attractive. I do not have ‘homesexual behaviour’ that needs to be ‘corrected’. There is no such thign as homosexual behaviour – there is nothign inherently logical about being attracted to one or the other sex – it is who you are – I doubt your heterosexual behaviour can be ‘corrected’ And please refrain from talking in a way that essentially says that you want to protect your pure DeuthcheFatherland from the evil subversive gays/Jews that are destroying the West. Hatred is easier than understanding. Lots of love, Ben, London.
