The demise of good T.V.

Good television is becoming less of a reality and more of a myth. In my quest to avoid “reality” T.V. and other such crap, I’ve found I’ve been spending a lot less time in front of the small screen. There’s just nothing worth watching anymore.

This season, the saddest story has been the demise of The West Wing which, once upon a time, was one of the best shows on television.

It was already in trouble last season. But since Sorkin’s departure, the show has taken a steady plunge into crapville. Oh, I still watch, but more out of habit and wistfulness than genuine interest.

C.J. Cregg, who was one of the more refershing characters on television, has turned into a whiny, holier-than-thou crusader for nonsense causes she understands nothing about. Josh can’t seem to rise above petty snivelling and royal screwups. Leo has turned into a complete and utter cynic. And nothing that President Bartlet has said in the last year has amused or moved me in any way.

It’s a real shame, cause the show was so good. It makes me want to cry. Where has all the good T.V. gone?

What’s wrong with ‘Cold Squad’ and ‘Da Vinci’s Inquest’ or ‘What Not to Wear’?

Who needs TV with a high speed internet connection?

I’ll second Knave on this one, variety is the spice of life.

Other than 24, I can’t think of a network show worth the time….I go to HBO for their some of their series, but on the whole, I agree, T.V.’s gone to Dante’s Level 3.

While the Sun has indeed set on the West Wing, there are still numerous programs to be enjoyed. 24 is back and better than ever. Arrested Development (Sunday nights at 9:30 Fox) is hilarious and it is great to see Jason Bateman back in prime time. If you like pets, Global has a great “reality” series about vets in PEI (I know it sounds lame, but it is quite compelling). There are the hockey playoffs and the Sopranos as well as Criminal Intent. Finally, on Friday nights on TLC you have the 1-2 punch of While You Are Out and What Not To Wear.

    I’ll third Knave.

We decided not to get a tv after getting married a few years ago, and frankly don’t really miss anything apparently.
    Xfiles was past interesting,
    Simpsons was degrading,
Seinfeld getting monotonous, (no comment about Raytmond and Drew)
Friends always as low as Phoebe,
Cherry and Maclean talking about hockey millionares lame,
Knowlton Nash long gone from news reading,
    etc, etc…

Sure you have the clicker, but it still forces you to watch whatever someone else was programming and nothing seems to be on when you want to watch it.
Free your mind from Hollywood moguls – chuck the TV.
