Syria, under international pressure for its role in the assasination of former Lebanese premier Rafik al-Hariri, has reverted back to its tried-and-true tactic of misdirection towards Israel.

Well, Israel isn’t exactly in a position to critique assassinations and occupations.
Tré
Looks like you are in no position to ‘critique’ anything.
The conspiracy theory has it that America/Israel/’the west’ is behind framing Syria in order to do ‘regime change’ and get a pipeline running through Syria to the Med.
I thought Tre was waiting for an improvement in our debating styles?
I’m thinking Just a Guy is her nom de plume.
Actually, I was waiting for Her Argueship to return in order to share this:

Not a bad analysis Dan. Only problem is, it is not Muslims holding back the establishment of a Palestinian state, it is Israel.
You are correct Josh, that is the conspiracy theory. You have to admit the timing is suspicious and given the CIA`s past actions (especially in South/Central America, but also in the ME) it could very well be. However, conspiracy theories can`t be proved or disproved so there`s no point in debating their merits. On the other hand it is naive to think that all is transparent in the corridors of power.
Yeah, oil-based conspiracy theories! Remember the one about a supposed gas pipeline that was circulated by the anti-war crowd when the USA invaded Afganistan?
Still no pipeline; in fact, not even tenders for the construction of one!
Yes, I remember John. The American Unocal, of which Hamid Karzai was once an employee, was to get the contract.

tre?
You said:
‘it is not Muslims holding back the establishment of a Palestinian state, it is Israel.’
Care to back that up?
tre?

Israel is continuing to occupy the land on which a Palestinian state is to be founded.
We start another merri-go-round of the same argument now?
How about, the Palestinians want to found a state on Israeli land?
Can Israelis spend the next 50 years saying “they stole our land”? Cause it would be more accurate than the Palestinian claim.
re, what you are saying in your ‘merri-go-round’ sort of way is that Israel has no right to exist as a Jewish state, right?
In the immortal words of Tre, “ho hum”…
Note that once again, Tre brings up totally irrelavant arguments to avoid discussing the topic of choice, Syria.
Dan,
betcha dollars to donuts that Hanthala gets her jollies by coming here for some good ole fashioned Jew baiting.
I can see that type a universe away!
Hanthala…Hanthala? Oh, right! I’d forgotten about her…
😉
Damian posted a link to this article. Anyone that does this much research deserves a medal; article well worth saving for future arguments!http://www.commentarymagazine.com/Production/files/podhoretz1205advance.html
There goes the merry-go-round. Sari, I can`t accept Cliff going into his hate hallucinations but you surprise me. Palestinians are not building a state on Israeli land, get back to earth girl. I don’t really care what you want to call the land, I just don’t believe that people should be expelled from their homes for ideological/religious beliefs.
Oh Tré! Thanks for the link and the Hamid Karzai “connection”. You are just like clock-work!
Just one probleme, though; where’s the pipeline?
And Tré, your concern for the Palestinains is touching and the principles you expound noble, so I,d like to know your opinion on this:
What do you think of the fact that the Arabs occupying the land of North African Berbers still won’t allow the Berber language to even be taught in schools?
For the past 1400 years Arab imperialists have gleefully supressed and obliterated the native cultures and languages of the Middle East and North Africa, and yet you sympathise with the oppressors
Ask any Palestinian Christian ( of whom there are fewer and fewer) whether they’d prefer to live under the PA or the Israelis. And, at the same time, ask them why there are no Christian suicide bombers.
You lament a group of people who will enthusiastically oppress and evict their own kith and kin merely because of religious differences.
I,ve said it before and I,ll say it again: Israel is the BEST thing that’s happened to the whole area in at least a thousand years!
If only the Arabs had the humility to acknowledge the achievements, the accomplishments, the expertise and the opportunity that Israel’s presence represents, the whole region could be radically transformed in barely a generation.
The probleme isn’t “occupation”, it’s arrogance and the vile supremacist sentiments that go with it.
‘What do you think of the fact that the Arabs occupying the land of North African Berbers still won’t allow the Berber language to even be taught in schools?’
Arabs are not occupying North Africa, there is no comparison to Israel. The fact that Berber is not recognized everywhere as an official language ought to be changed, there are movements to do so. Berber languages have hardly been obliterated.
‘Ask any Palestinian Christian…whether they’d prefer to live under the PA or the Israelis.’
The many Christian Palestinians I met at Concordia and in Montreal were united with their Muslim brothers. As for living under Israeli government, no nationa wants to live under the rule of another. But even if they did, the Israelis would not accept Muslim or Christian Palestinians as equal citizens.
As for the pipeline, the point is that it can hardly be called a conspiracy (look it up John) – it was being discussed even before Sept. 2001. Unocal backed out but I still won`t call this a conspiracy theory.
tre,
No need to ‘hallucinate’ anything.Your condescending attitude and elitist comments speak for themselves.
Tré, yes the Arabs ARE occupying North Africa. They are not native to the region, but rather are invaders and colonisers.
At least ther Mexican gov’t, for instance, recognises the Mayan language, Tagalog is openly used in the Philippines and in Israel one hears Arab everywhere!
As for the poor Berbers? Well many of them since the islamic insurgency of the 90’s have converted to Christianity. So I read just this morning that Algerian authorities are banning all missionaries.
Some freedom, eh?
No freedom of religion and no cultural liberty, just cultural genocide…..but it’s the Palestinains who are oppressed!
Tré, your leaps of logic are are breath-taking!
One more thing, Tré; what do you think of the hundreds of Palestianian gays and lesbians spirited out of the “occupied” territories and given a safe haven in Israel?
Kinda odd for a so-called “racist” state to do, eh?
Betcha Leviticus went ballistic!
I didn’t realize Moroccan Berber were not Moroccan citizens.
I also did not realize that the Palestinians were responsible for the actions of the Algerian, Morrocan (no I can’t spell that, must be the Palestinians fault), Tunisian, Egyptian, Jordanian, Lebanese, Syrian, Saudi & other gulf state, Iraqui, Iranian, Pakistani, Indonesian, etc. etc. governments. Oh well, learn something new everyday.
Not so far, apparently.
Is tre babbling again?
Yup; such nice people…

Tré, if your language ( the native tongue of these North African areas) is outlawed, then you aren’t a much of a citizen, are you?
And you also didn’t realise that Palestinains were responsible for the actions of Algerians etc?
Hmm….in the Arab world when one member of the ummah is attacked, Tré, it’s as though every member has been assaulted. Hence the inter-Arab “solidaity” with the Palestinain cause!
All are oppressed!
So, conversly, when one member of the ummah oppresses, maims and supresses, it’s as though every member of the family does so!
All are aggressors!
I have a priority check-list of victims; a kind of hierarchy, you know, that prompts me to think of the worst-off cases first and formost.
Palestinians are on it, but they’re way, way down near the bottom in a sub-category labelled “self-inflicted”.
Now, look who is babbling.
