Elsie Wayne puts nail in Tory coffin

Federal Conservative Deputy Leader Elsie Wayne’s remarks about gays and lesbians and how they should just “shut up” pretty much put the final nail in the Tory party’s already sinking coffin: (Via Damian Penny)

Elsie Wayne, the deputy leader of the Progressive Conservatives, said yesterday that homosexuals should “shut up” about their lifestyle and complained that Canadians should not have to tolerate gay pride parades, drag queens and same-sex marriages.

To me, the scariest part is all the comments on the National Post’s feedback page from people cheering on Elsie Wayne for her bigotry.

When will people learn that hatred masked in self-righteous morality is still hatred?

Oh dear… don’t look at my blog today then. Not that I particularly agree with much of what she said (myself being a “what they do in the privacy of their own homes…” sort of fellow), but I do applaud her for having the courage to be politically incorrect on that issue, since I do not like people being labelled “homophobes” merely because they disagree with gay activists on one thing or another.

Her comments sounded pretty homophobic to me. Relationships aren’t things that happen “in the privacy of their own homes”, sure the sex is, but there is more to most relationships than just sex. I don’t think Elsie really has any courage at all, or else she would just come out of the closet.

LOL Jonny! BTW Segacs, that’s the National Post for you (and canwest-global in general) on every issue. Right wingnuts.

Not that I wouldn’t agree a lot of the time — though the Saturday Post, which I usually buy, has had some good articles now and again — but, Hanthala, weren’t you telling us a while back that you didn’t read the National Post?

I have always wondered what is a Tory?

So I guess you won’t be inviting Joseph Farah to speak again. In fact, his comments sound pretty similar to Elsie’s:
“Remember when the homosexual political movement began? We were told that it was only about what people do in the privacy of their own bedrooms. No longer is that the case — if, indeed, it ever was. Ironically it is the homosexual activists today who want to make a public issue of what they do in their bedrooms. In fact, they want to turn what they do — their chosen behavior — into a phony civil rights issue.”

Nope, I don’t agree with Joseph Farah’s stance on homosexuality. But – like Elsie Wayne – that doesn’t make Farah wrong about everything he says, just about that.

And like Elsie Wayne, he still has a right to say it. In fact, I think it’s better when people are given the right to speak their mind because it allows us to know what they really think, and to make up our own minds about their views and positions.

Hi, I’m Jewish, in Lodnon, justy stumbled onto your cool site. I just read comments by someone signed ‘Devon Hill’ further down your blog and have a few il-tempered comments for him about his views on homosexuality:

On Earth there are 3 billion males adn 3 billion females. 90% of males are attracted to females and 10% to males. There concept of ‘lifestyle’ does not apply to beign gay – either you are attracted to the same or opposite sex. Neither you nor I chose to be attracted to males or to females. There is no such thing as ‘ex-gay’ .. some individuals after a life of fear forced themselves into heterosexual marriage. What thosuands and thousands – what are you tlaking about? These ‘conversions’ of homosexuals have been comprehensively debunked – all academic studies have concluded you cannot change your sexuality. It is not ‘normal’ to be heterosexual – it happens to be the way you are. Of course, perhaps it is normal to be white Aryan and those with the disorder of beign Jewish – well we should tolerate them of course but not encourage this. In order that these subversive homosexuals don’t affect your pure blood, perhaps gay people should have to wear armbands with pink triangles so they can be identified – it has been doen before. I know my great grandparents had to wear the yellow star and they and homosexuals died together.
It is deeply anti-intellectual to say it is a lifestyle or there is choice in the matter or that there is any moral issue involved at all. What moral issue is involved? Gay people are only interested in each other, not you. Don;’t flatter yourself. I’m gay and see nothign wrong with me being in love with some1 and having a healthy relationship. There is no possiblity oif me marrying a woman as i am naturally only attracted to the same, not the opposite sex. Why do you want people liek me to be told we’re inferior. It’s unfortunate you use the same language as some supremacists. I am Jewish, male and do not find women attractive. I do not have ‘homesexual behaviour’ that needs to be ‘corrected’. There is no such thign as homosexual behaviour – there is nothign inherently logical about being attracted to one or the other sex – it is who you are – I doubt your heterosexual behaviour can be ‘corrected’ And please refrain from talking in a way that essentially says that you want to protect your pure DeuthcheFatherland from the evil subversive gays/Jews that are destroying the West. Hatred is easier than understanding. Lots of love, Ben, London.
