Mel Gibson’s views

I didn’t want to write anything about the Mel Gibson “Passion” controversy. Really I didn’t. I felt – and still feel – that all the whining is just giving the film tons of publicity that it wouldn’t have been able to get otherwise, and I didn’t want to feed the media frenzy in any way.

But whatever one thinks of Mel Gibson, Meryl has the scoop on Mel’s dad, giving credence to the theory that the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.

Even if there’s no direct evidence that Mel shares his father’s extremist views, in light of the film and surrounding controversy, can you really blame a person for wondering?

Crazy shit… thanks for the link.

Christianity was partly founded on a racist lie. Sad but true.

Jonathan, most of Christianity has worked towards overcoming those roots in the past number of years. Unfortunately the Gibson brand of Catholicism doesn’t seem to want to recognize the strides that the Catholic Church has taken to try to improve Judeo-Christian relations.

Excusing evangelical anti-semites because they support Israel Segacs?

What??? Are you illiterate or just incapable of reading? How exactly do you gather that I’m “excusing” Mel Gibson?

Did you see the movie Segacs?

Funny review in the Globe. Yet another reason not to pay money for this thing…

Didn’t see this till just now, Hanthala. Nope, haven’t seen it, not intending to. Like Allison, I’m voting with my feet.

Besides, the violence controversy seems to have superceded the antisemitism controversy. If Gibson was looking for publicity, he sure found the right formulas.

I agree, about the marketing. And the movie doesn’t interest me either. Two hours of mea culpa is just too much.
