Happy separatist day – er – St. Jean Baptiste Day – to all out there.
Whether you spent La Fete Nationale draped in blue and white, or just enjoying the day off from work, I hope it was a good one.

One thing I never got…they have Franco-Ontarien Festival here in Ottawa. So it celebrates the French culture in Ontario..so far so good. Now it has its final night usually on June 24..as it did this year. The thing that always got me is why is always just awash with the blue and white? Its the Franco-Ontarien festival after all..and there’s nothing that nationalist Quebeckers have more contempt for than the French culture in Canada outside of Quebec. Strange country we got here….
And where exactly do you get this “contempt” idea?
Observed experience while a student at University of Ottawa. Anecdotal evidence from Acadian and Franco-Ontarien friends who live or lived in Quebec. There were also some interesting points to that effect in John Raulston Saul’s book “Reflections of a Siamese Twin”.
BTW people, nationalism and separatism are two different things.
