Pettigrew rebukes Israel

Well we didn’t have to wait long to see what our new foreign minister’s attitude towards Israel was going to be:

Canada rebuked Israel over a plan to build 1,000 new homes in existing settlements in the West Bank, saying the move hindered hopes for peace with the Palestinians.

Foreign Minister Pierre Pettigrew suggested that the swelling settlements were a contravention of the internationally-backed roadmap peace plan.

“Canada is very concerned by Israel’s decision,” Pettigrew said in a statement.

“It contravenes international law and goes against the Quartet’s Road Map for peace in the Middle East, agreed to by the parties, which requires the freezing of all settlement activity.”

“Final status issues such as land and borders can only be resolved through a negotiated agreement between the parties.

“The deliberate expansion of settlements in the occupied territories hinders the prospect for achieving a peaceful resolution to the conflict.”

Right. As though the Road Map were still on the radar screen. As though the Palestinians fulfilled even a single obligation of theirs spelled out by the Road Map. As though the “hopes for peace” were still alive and well.

Canada’s official foreign policy: denial of reality.

Does Israel really care what Canada thinks? No one does in America because of it’s very liberal policies which support Islamofacists. The fact that Al-(Jihad)zeera gets to air in Canada while Fox news is denied permission tells me everything I need to know about the Canadian goverment.

Just back from England and Paris and am glad to be home in my apartment in Ariel, Samaria, Israel.
We’re renting now, but we would like to buy in the medium-term, so I hope that the tenders announced are for real and that decent construction companies win the tenders.

The world is so hypo-critical. A report on English tv showed how the UK govm’nt has some policy against hiring doctors from ‘third-world’ countries in order not to steal them away (a policy that doctor-desperate Quebec doesn’t have, please correct me if you can), but the item was about the loophole allowing manpower agencies to hire them and then fill in posts they’ve won through tenders until the doctors achieve some landed-resident type status and become legit hirees.

Anyway, who’d want to live there? Everything is so friggin expensive. A 2l bottle of cola costs CAN$3.28 for comparision, I’m not even going to tell you about the fresh produce.

Josh; here in B.C., the BCMA (the Dr.’s Professional Association) makes it reaaaaally tough for 3rd world Drs. to gain accreditation. My understanding is that if the applicants want to work in the boondocks rather than urban centres, they’ve got a better chance of getting accepted. Big shortage of General Practioners here.
