Hamas and Hezbollah are devoted entirely to war.
It’s what they do, it’s what they know and it’s the only enviroment in which they can thrive.
There may also be an unexpected Lebanese angle to this, as well.
Beirut is a very libertine city with a large Christian community, and it acts, thus, as a conduite for western culture and mores. It constitutes a breach in Islam’s defense walls and an affront, a threat to its “purity”.
That fact bothers Hezbollah more than many think, and so this latest provocation on their part may have an element, an aim of ethno/religious cleansing that many haven’t even considered.
In fact, if memory serves me, just a few months ago there were several small attacks on Beirut’s Christian community by islamists.
